The current literature points to three different mechanisms that perform better in smaller doses: UC-II undenatured type-II collagen (40mg, oral-tolerance immune modulation), AKBA-standardized Boswellia (100mg, 5-LOX inhibition for inflammatory cascade modulation), and curcumin (500mg as Meriva phytosome, the bioavailable form).
These mechanisms layer rather than compete. Undenatured collagen works through the immune-tolerance pathway in the gut-associated lymphoid tissue. Boswellia works through the leukotriene pathway. Curcumin works through NF-κB modulation. Three different angles on the same problem.

UC-II works at 40mg/day via oral tolerance — a totally different mechanism than the multi-gram doses of denatured collagen peptides. Boswellia must be AKBA-standardized to deliver the active fraction. Curcumin without phytosome or piperine has effectively zero bioavailability.
