Vitamin D3 without K2 is the most common mistake in the supplement aisle. D3 raises serum calcium absorption from the gut; K2 (specifically the MK-7 menaquinone isomer) directs that calcium to bones and teeth and away from arterial walls and kidney tissue. Taking high-dose D3 in isolation has been associated with arterial calcium accumulation in long-term observational data — pairing the two is the published-literature consensus.
Our formula uses 5000 IU (125mcg) of cholecalciferol from lanolin and 180mcg of MK-7 menaquinone from natto fermentation. Both fat-soluble; both delivered in a single MCT-oil softgel for absorption with or without a meal.
If you're north of 35° latitude (which is most of the continental US), winter blood-25(OH)D levels for the average sedentary adult run between 20-25 ng/mL — below the 30 ng/mL threshold most endocrinologists target. How to take it.
- Standard protocol: 1 softgel with breakfast or any fat-containing meal.
- Recheck serum 25(OH)D every 6 months — target 40-60 ng/mL.
- Pair with 400mg magnesium glycinate (magnesium is a cofactor in D3 activation).

MK-7 vs MK-4: MK-7 has a serum half-life of about three days versus MK-4's ~90 minutes, so a once-daily dose maintains steady-state blood levels. Cholecalciferol (D3) is the form your skin synthesizes from sun exposure — significantly better at raising serum 25(OH)D than D2 (ergocalciferol).
