    Three actives per nightly serving

  • Magnesium bisglycinate (Albion TRAACS) — 400mg elemental Mg
  • Apigenin (98% from chamomile flower extract) — 50mg
  • Glycine (USP-grade pure amino acid) — 1500mg

The thinking

Three mechanisms. Zero melatonin.

Most sleep supplements are 90% melatonin and 10% theater. Melatonin works for circadian-rhythm correction (jet lag, shift work, true delayed-sleep-phase) but it doesn't deepen sleep architecture, and at the doses people typically take — 3-10mg, against a physiologic peak of 0.3mg — it leaves you groggy the next morning and dysregulates endogenous production.

The Sleep Stack uses three different mechanisms, none of them melatonin. 400mg magnesium glycinate calms the central nervous system and supports parasympathetic tone. 50mg apigenin — the bioactive flavonoid in chamomile — binds the benzodiazepine site on GABA-A receptors at a low affinity that increases sleep depth without next-morning grogginess. 1500mg glycine raises core body temperature dissipation in the hour before sleep onset (this is a published mechanism — your body cools down to fall asleep, glycine accelerates the cool-down).

Three capsules, 30-45 minutes before bed. Don't combine with prescription benzodiazepines or with alcohol. Don't combine with high-dose calcium at the same dose (calcium and magnesium compete for the same transporters).

01 · Autonomic calming

Magnesium bisglycinate

  • Dose: 400 mg

The mineral cofactor in over 300 enzymatic reactions, including the ones that govern parasympathetic tone and NMDA-receptor regulation. Glycinate form crosses the blood-brain barrier intact and doesn't trigger the laxative response that oxide does.

02 · Sleep depth

Apigenin (98% from chamomile)

  • Dose: 50 mg

The bioactive flavonoid in chamomile extract. Binds the benzodiazepine site on GABA-A receptors at a low affinity that increases sleep depth without next-morning grogginess. This is the mechanism people are reaching for when they drink chamomile tea — concentrated to the dose published trials use.

03 · Sleep onset (core temp)

Glycine (USP)

  • Dose: 1500 mg

Your body cools down to fall asleep — the published mechanism is core body temperature dissipation through peripheral vasodilation. Glycine accelerates that cool-down. The 1.5g dose is what the human RCTs on glycine for sleep used.

We declined to use a "proprietary sleep blend" on this product because the only reason to hide the per-ingredient doses is when one of them is underspec'd. Each input is listed with the exact clinically-relevant dose.

01 · The protocol

How to take it.

Three capsules, 30-45 minutes before bed, with a small amount of water. Apigenin and glycine both have peak serum windows of about 60-90 minutes — you want them on board as you wind down.

  • Standard protocol: 3 capsules 30-45 min before bed with a small amount of water.
  • Pair with: dimmed evening lighting, no screen 60 min before bed, cool bedroom (65-68°F).
  • Do NOT combine with: prescription benzodiazepines (additive GABAergic effect), alcohol, high-dose calcium at the same timing.
  • Apigenin can mildly potentiate sedatives — start with 2 capsules the first night if you're new to it.

02 · Do NOT combine with

Drug interactions.

The apigenin has a low-affinity GABA-A binding profile, which means it can additively potentiate any other GABAergic agent. These combinations should be cleared with a healthcare provider.

  • Benzodiazepines (Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin, Valium): additive GABA-A effect — avoid the combination.
  • Z-drugs (Ambien, Lunesta, Sonata): also avoid.
  • Alcohol: additive sedative effect, especially in higher quantities.
  • Same-timing high-dose calcium: competes with magnesium for transporters; take 2+ hours apart.

03 · What it's not

Not a substitute for.

The Sleep Stack supports sleep architecture — onset speed and depth quality. It does not replace the upstream behaviors that drive the biggest sleep effects.

  • Light exposure: bright light in AM, dim light evening. More impactful than any supplement.
  • Bedroom temp: 65-68°F is the sweet spot. Your body cools down to fall asleep.
  • Caffeine cutoff: last cup by ~2pm for most people (caffeine half-life is 5-6 hours).
  • Consistent schedule: same bedtime + wake-time, even weekends. Circadian regularity matters more than total hours.

Third-party verified

Apigenin verified 98% by HPLC.
Magnesium within ±2% label claim.

The apigenin standardization is the spec that varies most across the market — "chamomile extract" without standardization can mean anywhere from 0.1% to 4% apigenin content. Ours is verified by HPLC at 98% apigenin every batch. The cost difference is real; the dose difference is the whole reason it works.

From the customers who use it nightly.

I tried melatonin for years and always woke up groggy. Switched to this six weeks ago. Different category. I fall asleep within 20 minutes and wake up before my alarm without that drugged feeling. The fact that it's not melatonin is what got me to try it.
I'm a shift-worker (RN, nights) and sleep is the hardest part of the job. The Sleep Stack is the first non-prescription protocol that actually moves the needle on my sleep depth (verified — I track HRV and deep-sleep minutes on Whoop). Up about 22 min of deep sleep on nights I take it.
Three different mechanisms in one bottle is rare — most sleep products are 90% melatonin and 10% theater. The apigenin in particular is hard to find at a clinically-dosed level anywhere else. I'm a sleep researcher and this is the formula I take myself.
